No Sound Under Windows 95/98 |
 |
| Q. | I do not hear any sound under Windows 95, but device manager shows everything is working with no conflicts, and the speaker icon is present on my task bar. What's wrong? |
| A. | There are several possibilities that cause this problem to occur. First check that your speakers are plugged into the correct port, and if they are amplified, that you have either installed fresh batteries or they are plugged into a working outlet. Generally, if you do not plan on using any of the voice capabilities of the fax/modem, simply plug the speakers into the sound card port labled spkr out or line out. Consult your sound card manual if you are uncertain. If using the voice capabilities of your fax/modem, you will most likely need to acquire a short cable from your local electronics, stereo, or computer store. You then plug the speaker cable into the port on your sound card labeled spkr out or line out. You must then plug the short cable into the sound card port labeled line in, and the other end into your fax/modem port labeled line out. In the event you have a combination fax/modem sound card, simply plug your cable as if you had only a sound card. Finally, you may want to check your master volume control, which you can access by double-clicking on the speaker icon on your task bar. Be sure that the system sound is not "muted". |
